It is undeniable that the pressure placed on school and university students is increasing, and they are expected to work extremely hard from a young age. Also among college students, the competitive environment has gotten more seriously than in the past, especially in prestigious universities. To begin with, education produces positive results only when students are nurtured in a positive and motivating atmosphere, which is not the case today. Some school systems have taken too much focus on performance, which includes standardized testing, ranking and competition. This, predictably, places an intolerable burden on students and leads to apathy and learning misunderstanding, as well as a variety of mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and even suicidal ideation. For example, a concerning trend has been observed in countries such as Chinese, Japan and South Korea and more likely to continue in the near future. Secondly, a large majority of young people have not yet gained sufficient experience to make career decisions. These minds are still being wrapped around ideas from their parents, teachers, and peers, and their comprehension on many other topics is insufficient. Narrowing a person’s attention and choices is a way of robbing him or her of the ability to be open-minded and imaginative. Allowing students to experience the world from different viewpoints and directions, on the other hand, can have a wonderful impact. This has been shown in the United States, where the educational system is consistently ranked first in the world even though testing and homework are not much. In conclusion, I believe that stress put on students should be kept to a minimum. Otherwise, they would become bookworms who could no longer be considered human. Reasonable pressure has more advantages than disadvantages as it help motivates students.
