Firstly, being assured of creditworthiness of a person asking for plastic money is essential for the safety and sustainability of a bank. In other words, in order to remain intact in a banking system for a long period of time, banks should manage their finance accurately. For example, in my country a number of banks were stopped to operate due to a large amount of debt by cardholders who did not pay back on time. If they checked financial background of applicants beforehand, then they would have been continue to exist.
Moreover, this approach to offering credits, protects the users to be left moneyless. Taking into account the easiness of their usage, impulse buys on it causes debt to add up quickly and to pay interest. For instance, my friend who traveled abroad overspend on the card and did not pay back the full amount due date. As a result, he was in debt and had to sell his watch in order to repay. In addition, his credit history has been recorded in the bank showing him as a person who is careless and delays return. Therefore, if creditors know about the financial status of a person prior to issuing card, then they not only would ensure themselves, but also its holders from unwanted consequences.
In conclusion, a piece of plastic offers great opportunities to its holders due to its easy access to money, wherever and whenever it is needed. However, swiping it frequently to make a purchase may result in bankruptcy of people.
