Extreme sports excite people who need an adrenaline boost. Some people deme these sports dangerous and believe they should be banned but on the other hand, some like myself believe the freedom to practise their interests. In this essay, I will address both view points and give my opinion. Adrenaline is a hormone required by humans which gives them excitement, happiness and a kick in life. They get this adrenaline through sporting activities such as mountain hiking, motor sports, dirt biking, skiing, skydiving etc. These activities do pose some hazards and can cause some injury but that is with any sport or daily task. I agree the safety of a person should be number one priority. The benefits should outweigh the risks. There is no guarantee any sport can be cleared as 100% safe. For example, football is a worldwide phenomenon but it also poses some risks. Footballers are prone to injuries such as an ACL tear, broken bones and even concussions. So how will the government decide which sports are dangerous and which are safe? I believe people should have the freedom to take part in any sport which they find enjoyable. Sport is a pass time for some, it helps keep them active and helps clear their head after a stressful day. For instance, to blow some steam some people go away for the weekend, for vacations to go mountain hiking or skiing. In addition, these tasks help people interact socially and create social events for people to get together. These activities help a persons health mentally, physically and socially. On the other hand, I see why some people think governments should ban dangerous sports as they might have a fear for mortality or injury. An insight to their view is that they cannot comprehend the enjoyment of putting yourself in danger. They see the risks over the benefits for the human body and mind. UFC wrestling and boxing are a good example as injury rates are high in this sport. However, there are a number of precautions taken to avoid injury such as weight class fights. In every sport there is a thorough medical check which clears any sportsman before they take part in any activity. In conclusion, I think the government should allow the partake of any sport as long as the person is medically cleared healthy and strict health and safety procedures are followed. In my opinion, they should have officials who strictly analyse the risks and prevent any serious medical injury. People should have the freedom to be accountable for their own interests and life as long as rules are strictly adhered to.
