Nowadays, many schools find it profitable to sell unhealthy food and sugary drinks to students during lunch breaks. Is this a positive or negative development? PXQyj
Recently, many organisations offer unhealthy diets to students at lunch. This is a negative development, in my view as these unhealthy foods contain high amounts of fat and sugar, which could harm pupils’ bodies. However, the absence of playgrounds at schools can do more harm for students, in my view. To begin with, one of the biggest disadvantages is the high fat content and sugar in the food during lunch time. Lunch is the main course of meals of an individual; therefore, unbalanced diets are ruining the chance to enjoy a healthy option for an individual. As students are consuming unhealthy diets inside institutes and outside schools; consequently, the chance of suffering fatal diseases such as High Blood Pressure, Heart Attacks, and Diabetes is really high among school students. In the United Kingdom, for example, 80% of overweight kids suffer serious health issues like High Blood Pressure or Diabetes due to consuming heavy amounts of fast food, according to the National Health Service (NHS). Thus, these junk foods have serious health effects on students. Furthermore, most of the megacities’ schools have no playgrounds for physical exercise. Physical exercise is really vital to burn fat and energy from sugar, which are critical to maintaining a healthy body. In addition, Most schools have dropped physical exercise from their school curriculums. Consequently, these schools have a huge number of kids, who are overweight due to the consumption of junk foods. In Bangladesh, for instance, the ministry of education has published a report, which claims 80% of overweight students are from those schools, which do not have playgrounds. In closing, selling junk foods at schools is unacceptable, which affects the health of school kids and suffer fatal diseases as a result. Playgrounds’ absence at schools are not providing the chance to students to perform physical exercise, which could assist to burn calories and negate the health effects.
