Nowadays, poisonous dust inhaled by children while mining cobalt for the batteries that power our phones and other electronic gadgets. Problematically, The Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC) in Central Africa, is home for these infant miners, some of whom are as young as seven years old. Given that DRC produces more than half of the world’s cobalt, one-fifth of it is mined by artisanal miners and roughly 40. 000 children work in the southern DRC where the cobalt is produced, as a consequence people all over the world are using phones which involve child labor. However, giant phone producing industries including Apple and Samsung refuse to say whether their cobalt supply chains are earned by child labor or not, additionally, they were cited in a lawsuit over deaths and serious injuries occurred among child laborers in DRC cobalt mines(Michele Fabiola Lawson; Wilson Center ). We can not refuse that our gadgets became inseparable part of our lives, but we must not ignore the rights of both genders and children whose life is being wasted for powering our phones. In order to shorten the number of victims in slavery the ILO( International Labor Organization ) has signed related conventions of forced labor. Moreover, most countries have now signed up to the 2000 Palermo protocol and UN Convention against transnational organized crime. Despite such proscriptions modern slavery is continuing to flourish. If to take the example of the Thai fishing industry, where for years large numbers of men have been forced under threat of violence to work for no pay in the production of seafood destined such as Costco, Walmart, Tesco and Carrefour (Hodal et al, 2014; Lawrence & Hodal 2017 ) In the end, although UNICEF and ILO organizations are taking an action to fight against any types of slavery, they are still remaining invisible and spreading all over the world by influencing individuals regardless of age and gender stereotype. The only way to cease this problem is helping people to understand their value and teach the legal ways to defend themselves from injustice. The more people are aware of their rights, the quicker life changes to a better place for humanity. As knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave ( Frederick Douglass ).
