In order to graduate from certain high schools, students must complete a certain quantity of volunteer work. I think this kind of requirement is good for students to improve their helpful skills, which include communication, teamwork, soft skills, and knowledge of their jobs and career before they go to college or university. The students are eager to contribute to their local community. Although it is true that many high schools require students to fulfil a particular number of volunteer hours, their ultimate goal is to provide practical experience for their pupils. In true, many businesses recruit people based on their previous job experience. For instance, UMC High School, which is my high school in Toronto, has a requirement of 20 hours of volunteer work so as to graduate. Since I could only have 4 hours to 5 hours of volunteer work every now and then, I volunteered five times for places like the library, mall, and orphanage. I sorted books in the library, wrapped the gift boxes for Christmas and New Year in the mall, and helped take care of children in an orphanage. I greatly improved my ability to communicate with others. To summarise, I feel this requirement is understandable and reasonable for these reasons: strengthening vital skills and increasing work opportunities after graduation.
