The four pie charts compare the proportion of electricity generation from all sources and renewables in Germany and France during 2009, all measured in Billion kWh. Overall, it can be seen that the biggest proportion of electricity gained from conventional thermal in Germany, whereas the main source of it was nuclear in France. To begin, the bulk of electricity generated in Germany, which was 560 Billion kWh, came from conventional thermal at 59. 6%. In France, the total of electricity generation was a slightly lower which accounted for 510 Billion kWh, and in contrast with Germany, the conventional thermal contributed only 10. 3 %, which the major percentage obtained by nuclear at 76%. In Germany, nuclear was around one-fifth of the total electricity generation. Regarding the renewables, Germany and France had the similar figure, ranging from 14% to 17%. In Germany, most renewables was gained from biomass and wind, at 39. 3% and 36. 9%, respectively, and followed by hydroelectric which merely at 17. 7%. Oppositely, in France, hydroelectric took the biggest percentage which was 80. 5%, whereas wind and biomass was accounted for just 10. 5% and 8. 1% for each. In both countries, solar contributed in a small proportion and neither geothermal was used to generate the electricity.
