Have your parents ever told you to get off your phone and thought to yourself why and what is wrong with it? Well, what if I told you that spending too much time is affecting you in a negative way. and that your parents are correct. When you spend too much time you disconnect yourself from life because you blur your background out since you focus more on what you're doing on Your phone rather than what is going on around you, This is not all, being on your phone non-stop can cause you to become anti-social as you stay inside and don't talk to anyone killing your social skills like talking. This can also be caused by too much texting too much rather than speaking to someone in person. This brings me to my first point.
When you text too much rather than speaking to them in person can cause you to lose social skills. In the text, is texting making ruining our ability to communicate, it states, “Too much texting may lead to a deficiency in interpersonal development, or one's ability to form relationships and communicate effectively. A lack of face-to-face interactions may cause an inability to interpret non-verbal cues in communication. ” This shows that by not having that face to face communication you are losing social skills because when you text someone you do not have to show physical appearance and emotions. This leads to my second reason for this because when you text you do not have to worry about the person seeing how you look. This can be a problem because when you then later meet someone in person you will be anxious about thinking about if they will like you or not because of how you look. Also when people text they will use things like, idk, or, lol. People using these too much can cause them to write worse essays and letters as they are used to using the letters for those words rather than the word itself which would cause worse grades and even job applications. For example, in the text, texting affects vocabulary negatively. It states, ” People like to text in short terms and our brain gets accustomed to picturing words in the short term, which affects our vocabulary. ” and “It will hinder children's abilities to apply grammar in their writing and social skills. ” If you want to keep your social skills strong and healthy you should go out and talk to people in person more often.
Have you ever felt that after getting off your phone for a long period of time you feel like you can hear everything much brighter and everything is more lively? Well, that's because when you are on your phone for too long you start to get disconnected from reality since you are focusing on the world inside the screen in front of you. This is not good as when this happens you may be unaware of what is happening around you. For example, about three weeks ago I was at home sitting on my bed watching tik tok when all of the sudden my mom rang the doorbell, but I did not know about this until about 10 minutes later when my mom finally called to tell me. This proves that even something so noisy and distracting as a doorbell can be blurred out because you paying too much attention to what's in the virtual world. In addition to this being disconnected from what's around, you can be bad because there could be something important that you have that you forget about because you were too focused on your phone. So maybe limiting your screen time and setting a timer could be useful to you as you still get to go on your beloved websites and games, but still are able to get connected with the outside world.
Being on your phone, or more specifically social media, you can get very discouraged since you are seeing all of these people having the best lives ever and feel like your life is nothing compared to theirs. However, this is not true because whatever is posted on social media is usually a highlight of that person's life rather than their life. There is an article called, “Social Networking is a life’s highlight reel, not the whole story. ” This article's title itself shows that it is in fact true and this is not the only one saying this. It is very important to show or state this as many people in this generation do not understand this which is causing a negative impact on the person’s life as it is dragging down their courage. Not only does social media discourage some people, but it can also make people jealous. In the text, studies show how social media can trigger jealousy, it says, ” A total of 54% of social media users feel upset when no one 'liked or commented’ on a picture they posted and nearly half were jealous when they saw a friend had more likes than they did. ” This show that people will become competitive about like and comments which would then later lead to jealousy as sometimes when two people compete against each other might lead to rivalry and jealousy if one is doing better than the other, especially with younger people.
Some people may say that being on your phone a lot can be good as you can learn lots from the internet or make “friends”. However, it has been proven that many websites that you look at may have some sort of fake information. The internet is so big that you can find an article agreeing with anyone's opinion no matter what it is. As you probably know there are people that call themselves flat earthers which if you don't know, believe the earth is flat. We know that this is not true because of factual scientific data and pictures made by satellites that show the earth is in fact round, but this still does not stop people from believing against those facts. For example, you can look up online why the earth is flat and a bunch of articles would pop up showing you that it is flat like um. edu. mt and theguardian. com.
