It is believed that the number of individuals are yearly sent to prison is on the rise. Some argue that the best way to deal with crimes is jail, whereas others state that community service is a better alternative. I totally agree with the former notion. There are two fundamental reasons why prison is the best policy for controlling crimes. To begin with, isolation helps people obey the rules. when individuals are sentenced to jails for several years and experience difficult situations such as not seeing their relatives and bullying, they will value freedom. Therefore, if people become aware of the poor conditions of jails, this will deter people from committing crimes repeatedly. In addition, people who have criminal records would not be accepted by societies easily. This is highly likely to affect their future lives or job opportunities, and the chances are slim that they would find well-paid jobs because recruiters cannot trust them. As a result, fear of put their futures at risk will probably prevent people from carrying out crimes. On the other hand, some people think that community service is more beneficial. Firstly, this method teaches offenders to put values on helping instead of continuing offenses. For example, by donating money to charities, law breakers understand the concept of putting others first. Furthermore, fines should be applied for minor crimes like going beyond the speed limits. However, I believe that and these ways encourage people to commit crimes since they know always there is a way to compensate for offenses, and they do not have to go to jails. In conclusion, I completely agree that prison is the best means to decrease crimes. This is mainly because it assists people in taking their freedom for granted and fear of the consequences of crimes stop people stop from carrying out crimes.
