Unhealthy eating has a negative effect on both individuals and the society in which they live. Some people think that the government should tax unhealthy foods while others believe that a ‘fat tax’ is unfair and unnecessary. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Not only people who consume an unhealthy diet but also the community where they belong will also suffer side effects. Therefore, some people suggest a tax should be implied to fast food by the government, while others believe such taxation is unnecessary. To begin with, eating junk food is one of the main reasons for beginning obese. Obesity and its related diseases are one of the prominent causes of death, as obesity can lead to highly lethal diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Thereby, the officials have to invest a large amount of money in the health-related sector to research cure methods and treat patients. Thus, other industries such as social and economic infrastructure will have a low budget allowance. For that reason, inputting high taxes will let the country's income increase, so it can be spent on health sections. However, high taxes mean an increase in food prices. Therefore, high food expenses will increase the overall living cost as food is the basic need of human survival. This will have a huge impact on poor and middle-income families. Hence, the living standard of the country will decrease. Since the rich will not affect by high tax rates, the gap between rich and poor will be increased. The widening gap makes income inequality which affects the social and economic sections. In my opinion, instead of taxes on unhealthy food, the authorities should introduce health-related programs to share the effects of unhealthy diets and exercises which may prevent obesity. In conclusion, there are many solutions to prevent people from unhealthy eating habits instead of implying fat tax.
