The population explosion throughout the world has started taking its toll on farm lands. The demand for food is increasing worldwide owing to number of reasons. Let us discuss the causes behind increasing worldwide demand for food and whatpreventive measures can be adopted. There are plethora of reasons behind this increasing phenomenon which entails population growth, pressure on land and decline of natural resources, etc. Lack of awareness and education has forced the population growth to rise and as a result, more food is required to feed the relatively larger proportion of society. Moreover, the pressure of increasing population on farm lands has forced farmers to use excessive fertilizers and pesticides which has in turn reduced the yields from farm lands. Also, studies indicate that around one-fifth of total forest areas is uprooted every year as a result of human activities like logging, construction, etc which results in decreasing food output. Considering the long term requirements of food, there is need to adopt preventive measures to fight the predicament of food shortage. Around 20% of the total household food is wasted which can be avoided by spreading general awareness. Necessary steps towards land fertility should be considered rather than allowing more forestry land to produce food. Advanced machinery and technology should be used to increase the production output. Likewise, population growth should be taken into account to reduce the strain on land. Lastly, it is crucial that we look at the facts and take corrective steps to meet the increasing demand for food. It may look challenging and arduous task but at the same time, It is the topic of general concern to be considered at present.
