Some people think paying taxes is enough of a contribution to their society, while others think people have more responsibilities as members of society than only paying taxes. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Whilst some insist that through paying into the taxing system, they have
fulfilled their societal duties, others argue that there should be much more
to expect. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument; in addition,
give reasons why I think there are other bonds that are of equal importance
as paying taxes.
Paying taxes is not only an obligation every single citizen needs to fulfil
but also is the way via which they lend their hands to assist the operation
of society in general. Taxes play such a crucial role in the sustainability of
any countries because without them, every government as well as every
bureaucratic institution can not be funded thus no longer can function. For
example, tax-payer money is used to pay salaries and training fees for army
forces that are responsible for defending and maintaining the sovereignty
of the motherland.
Besides the mandatory contribution via taxes, citizens are also morally
required to help protect their own living environment. Poor living
conditions which are associated with the deterioration of the surrounding
environment have long proved to have detrimental effects on local public
health. In some southern provinces in Vietnam, heavy water pollution
caused by spontaneous family-sized manufacturing facilities directly
discharging waste water to the environment without treatment has led to an
increasing number of young locals diagnosed with chronic diseases such as
cancers or premature deaths. Solving these issues from the grass-roots is
not a matter that any authority can handle itself without the co-operation of
its citizens.
In conclusion, although through paying taxes, each person has substantially
made an input to sustain the overall social welfare, it is also worth to note
that other ethical responsibilities such as environmental protection are
comparably important to make sure not only the current but also future
generations have a green and healthy planet to live.
