Psychological illnesses may not be as obvious as physical disabilities or illnesses. ; Nevertheless, they are just as disabling in their own way. Society, however, is more accepting of those with physical than psychological illnesses or disabilities, the latter being regarded as a 'taboo' subject sometimes. To what extent do you agree with this view? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Disability is still the most debatable topic in the contemporary world. There is a war of words with the belief of community accepting the people with physical disabilities more open heartedly than the ones with psychological diseases. I welcome the notion of the belief prevailing in the society. There are multiple reasons of my outlook. The prominent one is that as physical ailments are more curable than the neurological abnormalities. For an example, a person having osteoarthritis will eventually recover over the person affected by cerebrovascular stroke. In addition, neurological patients show altered behavioural patterns like salivation, memory deficit, etcetera and therefore considered as a pitiable condition. People around the surroundings are irritated due to the secretions released from them. To justify my standpoint with an epitome that an individual of physically differently abled i. e. fracture will look normal, which will not make the people awful, but psychological challenged individuals have poor personal hygiene which refrains the community from accepting them. On the contrary, there is a myth in the minds of society that neurological affection is a curse of the god. The community lacks awareness about the mental conditions. However, the people with physical disabilities are not considered as burden to society. Summarizing all the information and reiterating my opine neurological patients are not readily accepted due to lack of awareness and narrow minded views of the community. Steps should be taken to bring awareness amongst the public by campaigns and one should be treated equally regardless of their disabilities.
