ONLINE LEARNING & IN CLASS EDUCATION

The epidemic of COVID-19 continues to spread, so students learn online at home to be safe. The education is adapted by online learning. Therefore, there are advantages and also disadvantages. Many people agree that studying at home is the same as learning at the university. However, I am afraid I entirely disagree with that because online have weaknesses more than onsite including; an inappropriate environment, relationships, and the quality of students. The first reason is an inappropriate environment for online learning. Studying at home does not mean it is convenient for everyone. Therefore, many students have problems with online learning. For example, they stare at the screen for a long time, which causes them to lose concentration in the lessons. Also, they have a headache and eye ache because of looking at the screens. In another case, some students have to help their parents to work during the class; household, duty, and tasks. Thus, they miss some parts. In addition, some students do not have a private room, so there is a thing to distract them, for instance, a noise from the television or surrounding them. In my opinion, this situation is another reason why they do not turn on the microphone. For my reason, I would say that learning at home is not suitable for someone. Furthermore, online learning affects relationships between students and teachers. Studying at home leads to them, so they do not have to do it in person. There are weaknesses. For example, their relationship development shares direct experiences of each other with more difficulty resulting in their relationship not being intimate. Therefore, students do not dare to speak with the teacher. In addition, online learning is similar to one-way communication teaching. Also, the teachers are not able to see all of their students. Thus, they do not know how the student reacts. When students have a question, they are afraid to ask their teacher. Hence, the teacher cannot check if their students do not understand. Online classes can have a chance of a perception mistake. Therefore, online learning results in lower interaction between students and teachers. The last reason why I disagree with learning at home is that I consider the quality of students. Some subjects have physical practice, so online learning reduces the quality of some skills. For example, according to Matichon news, “the lecturer from Ubon Ratchathani University needs to teach their students to swim on the bed because they cannot go to practice in the swimming pool. ” Another example can be seen from my friend who studies chemistry. She does not get a practice Lab in the science lab. Therefore, she needs to learn online. In my opinion, she lost the chance to use the equipment. That is an important skill to work on in the future. Hence, learning at home makes the student receive only theoretical knowledge. Moreover, if students cannot practice, it leads to their potential not being complete. In conclusion, the epidemic of Covid-19 has been affecting education in universities. So, the students have online classes at home. Many people think that online studying at home is not different from studying at the university. However, I do not believe that because there are blind spots, including; an inappropriate environment, relationships, and the quality of students. In my opinion, studying at the university is necessary.
