During holidays or weekends, young people spend less time on outdoor activities in the natural environment, such as hiking and mountain climbing. Why? What can be done to encourage them to go out? o93
During the bygone days, youngsters were more active in outdoor activities as compared to today's youth. Owing to this, it often argued that the present generation is reluctant to spend time in the natural surroundings and do various leisure activities. There are various reasons behind this scenario, which are discussed in subsequent paragraphs, along with the solutions to provoke them to move out. To begin with, the advancement in technology has revolutionized the ways teenagers spending their leisure time. Today's youth like to spend more time on their electronic gadget as they can experience everything virtually with the click of a button, due to which they do not feel any need of stepping out of their comfort zones at home. Apart from this, parents play an imperative role in every activity of their children. Caretakers, today are so much engrossed to earn bread and butter for their family that they forget to spend time with their young ones and therefore often neglect their needs. They do not take them out to nearby parks even. Resultantly, these people do not have any social circle, which can accompany them to go for leisure activities in mountains. On the other hand, there are various methods with the help of which teenagers can be encouraged to move out of their homes and perform outdoor activities such as mountain climbing and hiking. Firstly, parents should be more vigilant on the activities of their young brigade and should force them to play outside in their free time. This will make them aware of the importance of outdoor activities and will show a willingness to move out of their comfort zones. For instance, according to a survey conducted by Oxford University, it is revealed that about 60% of children prefer moving out only if their parents spend time with them and explain to them the importance of nature. Hence, instead of giving their children an electronic gadget, parents should play with them and take them to hilly areas to show them the real beauty of mother earth. In the gist of the above-mentioned content, although youth today are satisfied with virtual reality and therefore do not prefer moving out of their houses, yet parents can convey the importance of outdoor activities by spending time with them especially on holidays or weekends.
