Can we decide a culture by looking at just one person?
Can we decide a culture by looking at just one person? k3rA8
Some people believe that a person's culture is defined by their country of origin, while others believe that has only a minor influence. If we define culture as common beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviours, it makes sense for a person's country of origin to affect their culture. However, at the same time, we cannot blame or appreciate a country by just looking at one person.
It is easy to understand the ‘defining influence’ argument. We have been having a huge refugee issue in recent days and we are experiencing a number of cultural differences, and thus many people blame a nationality by just looking at a person. For instance, we saw a number of videos that were shared by Afghans that included images of violence and abuse. Moreover, they are still defending their thoughts and it is unacceptable.
On the other side of the argument we need to consider the effects of globalisation. Many people are exposed to other cultures every day. As I said before, today there are migration and refugee issues all over the world. Conversely, people’s thoughts, it is not just about wars. Apart from war migration, brain drain is a particularly important factor in this situation. Therefore, everyone adapts to the culture of the place where they live.
From my point of view, there are a number of acceptable and unacceptable cultural features. For example, abusing children must not be a part of culture. If there is a situation like this, we should search for the problem in their culture. On the other hand, cuisine culture can be different from person to person because of interaction. We cannot decide exactly.
