Zoos are sometimes seen as a necessary but not poor alternatives to natural environment. Discuss some of the arguments for and/or against keeping animals in zoos

Zoos have always been seen as a source of entertainment across the world for many years. People have been visiting and enjoying zoos for decades but there are negatives of having zoos just as their are positives. Although zoos act as a good source of entertainment for humans, the same cannot be said about the animals caged in these zoos. Just like humans, animals too want their freedom and time alone. Being constantly watched by thousands of people can sometimes get irritating; not to mention the constant noise that ensues with the public, In zoos which are not properly watched over, people tend to purposely pester the animals. Animals belong to the wild and sometimes keeping them in closed cages can be detremental to their health. Also, the diet has to be properly taken care of to simulate the nutrition they would get in the wild. As mentioned, while their are negatives their are also some positives. Zoos provide a good source of education about wildlife and inculcates a sense of preservation amongst humans, especially children. Being brought up in urban areas, children are not used to seeing animals in real life and hence zoos provide an opportunity to experience wildlife. Zoos also act as a place to preserve wildlife. Due to environmental reasons or basic survival reasons, certain species are not able to survive in the wild, zoos thus act as a safe haven to these animals. Thus, although there are negatives to having zoos there are also alot of positives. If zoos are maintained properly and animal wellbeing is kept as the top priority, zoos can be a great place for animals as well as humans.
