The pie charts illustrate the proportion of total water consumption by 5 factors in Sydney, Australia during the period of 10 years from 1997 to 2007.
Overall, it is clear that the food industry consumed the largest amount of total water usage. Moreover, the percentage of the total water used by the service industry in 2007 was almost double the figure for 1997.
Throughout a decade, the food industry saw a gradual decline of 7%, from 48% in 1997 to 41% in 2007. The manufacturing and building industry also witnessed a decline in the percentage of total water consumption. The total amount of water used by the former in 2007 was 3% lower than that in 1997. Meanwhile, the figure for the number merely decreased from 5% to 2%.
On the contrary, there are two sectors that experienced a significant increase in the proportion of total water usage. The service industry accounted for 25% of the total water used in 2007, almost twice the figure for 1997, at 13%. It was followed by household use, which experienced a slight increase of 3% to reach 21% in 2007.
