Young people should be encouraged to pursue long-term, realistic goals rather than seek immediate fame and recognition.

The young generation of people is the most important asset for any country and the society. These children grow up to be the future doctors, teachers, engineers, scientists, artists and administrators. Thus, the right education and well-being of the young generation is of utmost importance to secure the future of mankind. The prompt suggests that children from a young age should be encouraged to pursue long-term and realistic goals rather than seeking immediate fame and recognition. Given the importance of children in shaping the society’s future, I strongly agree with the statement and would support it with the following two reasons. To begin, I believe that the right way to lead a happy and self-satisfactory life is to have a purpose to live, to find something that drives you every day to get out of bed and get to work. A long term goal ensures that our life is moving in certain fixed direction with passion. For example, a child who loves the environment since a young age may choose his goal as conserving the nature when he grows up. He may pursue his education in technical field, work for NGOs and grow up to develop green technologies. This passion when clubbed with years of hard work, persistence and determination will result in a self-made, self-confident individual who is working towards betterment of the society. Thus, encouraging young generation in this way will surely benefit the country as well as the society as a whole. Secondly, if students and children are encouraged to seek overnight success and fame, there is a high possibility that they will resort to bad ways of seeking it. There are no short-cuts to success. Immediate fame generally stems from very good luck or some underhandedness. Additionally, this immediate fame is transient and wears off soon after the trend through which it was originated, has passed on. This will eventually leave people chasing this fast route to success. This may result in raising a generation where crime rates are very high and scandals are happening every day. For example, a stock market trader looking for making fast money may get his hands dirty in insider trading which is illegal. Through this, he may earn a huge profit in one day but it can be addicting and may eventually lead to even a big scam. This habit can jeopardize his own career as well as social reputation and hurt other trader’s profits as well. Thus, it is imperative to encourage the young generation to find their passion and work towards their long term goals with persistent hard work and determination. This is the only way which will allow them to lead a happy and fulfilling life and in turn benefit the society as well.
