HIV and AIDS Prevalence and its risk factors
HIV and AIDS Prevalence and its risk factors Xp9rg
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has become one of the most serious health problems in the world. Globally, it is known that there is a lack of HIV knowledge among youth between the ages of 15-35. (Muthivhi et al. , 2011) This research will focus on level of knowledge on HIV/AIDS and its risk factors, attitude towards HIV/AIDS and to identify high risk behaviors associated with HIV/AIDS among students in United Kingdom.
Several studies assessed the level of knowledge and general public behavior on human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immuno-deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). However, comprehensive scrutiny of literature is essential for any decision-making process. Our objective was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS in students in UK. Over three decades, HIV/AIDS infected around 37. 9 million people globally and is a major public health problem and it is the second most infectious disease globally. (Delhi, 2006)
Since the inception of HIV/AIDS, the only way to fight against this infectious disease is to increase awareness, knowledge, and modify general public’s behavior. Therefore, a lack of awareness, poor knowledge about various aspects of the disease, and negative perceptions can affect preventive initiatives to control HIV/AIDS. In UK, the HIV/AIDS epidemic is highly heterogeneous, and dynamics in population, cultures, level of education, religion issues, and societies are frequently reported barriers that can affect an individual’s knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS. (Griffiths et al. , 2008b) Several studies have been carried out to investigate the level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS globally. Indeed, since 2010, much evidence on this topic has been published. However, comprehensive scrutiny to understand the level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS among the UK students has not been conducted. Thus, this study sought to systematically review and quantitatively estimate the current level of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS in students in UK.
