Overall, in both years, the majority of the population settled in Asia, which also included former Soviet Asia in 1900. Asia was the most populous country, while the African continent had the smallest population. In detail, over the century, the ratio of Asian and European regions has decreased. Europe's figure dropped from 25% to 14%, while Asia's fell from 60% to 54%. In addition, the biggest change made up in Africa, where the percentage more than doubled from 4% in 1900 to 10% in 2000.
