Nowadays, students have been encouraged to enter various academic competitions. For instance, spelling bee or science related. But is it really necessary for students to be under such pressure at a young age? Some may disagree and think cooperating in groups would foster a kind heart to their children. On the other hand, some may push their children to join these contests and aim for victory.
Firstly, students are influenced by both their surrounding environment and how they are raised. Raising children to be competitive will encourage them to always wanting to be number one. Thus, this leads to the children doing everything to win. Children will grow up thinking of being in competition with everyone, which will not be a healthy mentality because they will only focus on winning rather than building positive relationships with their friends or colleagues. For example, if they were raised be in competition with their friends, they will end up having a negative attitude, due to stress and pressure. It will not be healthy both mentally and in terms of relationship management for the children.
On the contrary, children that have been taught to cooperate than competing tend to have stronger relationships due to their way of being raised. Children with a positive attitude would be able to work more efficient in groups, since they have learned how to be a part of a group and how to behave properly. For example, sharing toys with friends is the fundamental principle for children to gain new friends. The more friends you gain, the more you learn about people’s personalities. This will be easy for children to handle people with different behaviors when they get older.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that children with better cooperating and teamwork skills will be able to work effectively with people when they are adults.
