I want to do an MBA because management and business are where my interest, skills and goals, both short term and long term align. I come from an Engineering background and my specialization is in Mining Engineering. After graduation, I was placed in Gainwell Commosales Pvt Ltd. (GCPL) and for the past 2. 5 yrs, I am working in this organisation. I was inducted as GET and after a year I was designated as Engineer-Mining Sales and assigned to work along with senior colleagues in the mine site/HEMM performance study and the tender participation. To date, I was involved in various other mine sites/HEMM performance studies and have also done the groundwork in various other tender participation processes. Now I feel that I am ready to take up higher responsibility for which a formal education in management will be helpful. There were times when I felt constraints in carrying out the assigned work as I learned only from the experience and the perspective of my seniors. All these years I executed the work by the analytical and technical skills that I developed during graduation, and feel that a formal education in management would help me to carry out those tasks with lesser effort.
By pursuing MBA I will also get an appreciation of various other functions like marketing, finance, HR, Operations etc. which will broaden my outlook. Although, I have an inclination towards pursuing MBA in finance. The idea of pursuing an MBA in finance strike me when I started my investment journey. I was fascinated by how few people like Warren Buffet, Rakesh Jhunjunwala and many others predict the upcoming successes of companies. And my pursuit to succeed and excel like them has led me to pursue MBA in finance. As it will provide a structured course helping me gain unique insights, valuable lessons and knowledge about the finance domain. It will also provide exposure to business topics and problems which were not covered during my engineering. It will provide a platform to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and build good connections and relationships. This will in turn help me grow and build myself to achieve my goals.
My short term goal is to acquire world-class management education from a top-rated Business School, like IIM Indore and launch my career in the finance industry where I can deploy the skills and techniques learned to create value for the organisation.
After working in the industry for at least five years and with all the execution skills that I have learned over the years and all the learnings from the MBA I would like to lead an organisation from the forefront. If possible after at least 10 years in the industry I would like to turn into an entrepreneur and start my own business.
An MBA from IIM Indore would be more valuable because of the eminent faculty, diverse peers and inputs from Industry Leaders. Apart from this, immense opportunities for corporate projects and summer internships would provide me with ample chances to apply my knowledge on a practical level.
