Music is one of the basic art forms that may serve many ranging purposes in entertainment and communication etc. With the advent of technology, international music is picking up pace and fast replacing traditional music in many parts of the world. In this essay, I will discuss the damage that world music has inflicted on local music and explore to revive them. Famous international music tracks are played in every household today, this has mostly to do with the advancement in communication technology and also the inclination of people are in young generation who are tuned in to the world music and they are seen to be pretty catchy and modern. For instance, many smartphone applications are tuned into any world radio station of user choice. Literally, the music is at your fingertips. Many traditional music cultures are either extinct or close to being extinct, due to the lack of support from local people themselves. For instance, a survey carried out in the southern part of India revealed shocking statistics that hordes of street performers and their families have lost their jobs to entertain people and they are seeking other means for survival. This has largely to do with the music industry not supporting the local talents and the lack of policies in the government to support such traditions. To summarize, International music is adorned but not at the cost of traditional music. Government and other local music industries should provide the necessary support to ensure the survival of traditional music and its culture.
