What strategies would you use to manage or control a class. DaYA6
Nowadays, inclusive education is a common norm in schools. It helps students with special needs to adapt school life easily. However, it is a great challenge for teachers to manage a class with such a great diversity of students. Personally, I would use the strategy of both behaviourism and humanism to control the class.
Firstly, behaviourism states that an organism responds to stimuli by connecting the outer environment and inner biological processes. In order to help students build up this connection, I use both positive and negative reinforcement during lessons. For example, when a student performs well in my class, I will praise him in front of his classmates. After that, he will feel good and will definitely have better performance next time. On the other hand, the negative reinforcement can prevent students from misbehaviours. For instance, if a student fights with other classmates, I will give him punishment like isolating him in school office. This can help him to calm down and rethink his action.
Although the method of behaviourism is a useful and practical, teachers should combine humanism, which stresses on human values and dignity, to educate pupils. It is extremely crucial to show our love, respect and empathy to students. After punishment, teachers should counsel them. The objective of the counselling is to help them understand their behaviour is unacceptable and should be corrected.
To conclude, teachers use both rewards and punishments to shape the behaviours of students, but more importantly, teachers should mould our youngsters by love and respect, so they will change from the bottom of their hearts to be righteous people.
