Young people today are better qualified than they were in the past. Some people argue that this is because competition for jobs is greater that it used to be. Others say that people only continue their education because the opportunities exist for them to do so. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

There is an ongoing debate whether young adults have become more competent over the years due to the highly competitive environment on the job market or to their university studying. This essay supports the former view. Both viewpoints will be analyzed in this essay before a conclusion is drawn.
Some people are convinced that the greatest catalyst for young adults to improve their skills is always being involved in a constant chase for a well-paid job. As the recent report of Gasprom recorded, more than 250 people sent their applications for the post of a head of one of the dozens of small offices in one of the company branches. Understandably, the more high-skilled workers are on the list of potential employees, the more effort they have to put into being somehow outstanding in terms of professional qualities.
However, others assume that the ability to proceed with the education has made it possible for students to get higher qualifications. While some people might say that education provides one with all the necessary skills one will need at their workplace, I would strongly disagree with it pointing out that education nowadays is mostly theoretical. Take Russia, for instance, most of the graduates enter their working life having utterly no practical experience, which, in fact, is extremely depressing and discouraging.
In conclusion, although lots of people consider education a stronger contributing factor to the young people’s increased qualification, there are many who reckon that facing innumerous competitors while struggling to get a job is a greater stimulus to raise one’s skill. This essay supports the latter idea since, to my mind, the need to outperform others is the most powerful moving force for relatively young job seekers.
