WHAT LIFE SKILL(S) DO YOU NEED TO HAVE AS A SECONDARY STUDENT? 2GYGo
Regardless of the practicability of real-life skills, they have been ruled out of the school’s curriculum and replaced by only theoretical knowledge, which is considered more crucial. Instead of learning how to budget finances, how to fix a flat tire, and what season to grow tomatoes in…, we are only taught subjects such as Geometry, Algebra, … mathematics; or the periodic table in Chemistry, … I do not look down on their significance, but when it comes to real-life situations; will it be important anymore if we know the element for gold is ‘Au’? Therefore, commencing secondary school, we students must learn several applicable skills before dropping out of university. Firstly, we all need to have our home manners, which are often emphasized by adults, to make ourselves compassionate young gentlemen and ladies. By learning how to say "Bless you" after someone sneezes or to hold the door for someone behind us… our personality traits will be developed and on occasion, plays as an essential advantage in the future. Next is money handling, one of the utmost crucial and practical life skills. Loans, taxes, savings — money makes the world go round. By the time we are still kids or teenagers, our parents usually lend us some cash and spoil us. Since the money is coming in regularly, most of us are not used to managing money. Our parents lend us $20, and what do we do? We go to the movies, buy some popcorn, and a $11 movie ticket. POOF! There goes all the cash. On account of that, learning to use money properly is impactful for secondary students, which should be added to the school’s curriculum as an extra class. On a daily basis, bullying, kidnapping, ravishing, or burglary, … are rife, and are likely to take place in the schoolyard, extra clubs, or the alleys… We no longer need to watch the news to know that our world is a dark place, frightening things going down in other countries because they're happening in our backyard. If only we were able to defend ourselves (without the help of the spray ofc: D). Learning self-defense in gym class could do wonders for students’ confidence as well as their physical strength. Never will we be afraid of lonely and dark streets at night, a bunch of intruders endeavoring to take our money and valuables, or school bullies: we'll always have the tools under our belt to handle the situations and get out of them as safely as possible. As a secondary student, I suppose several life skills like those would be able to help us cope with the cruel world out there. The more we grow, the more significant skills we will learn, but at our age, we should learn them first.
