In recent years, technology has become a popular component in contemporary performances. Such performances are characterized by use of bodily movements through dance and physical theatre. Physical theatre is characterized by a unique style of performance. It is therefore important for the theatre company to use viewpoints and composition technique in its performances. When technology is merged into physical theatre, viewpoints and composition are useful. They assist in the development and support for the show. In this paper, it is considered that theory can explain and support perspectives on contemporary performance.
Theory can assist in guiding artists towards the right direction as they produce new performances. Furthermore, physical theatre is characterized by a unique style of movement. It therefore tries to integrate technology in the efforts of developing a fascinating performance. Physical theatre utilizes technology, viewpoints and composition in discovering new styles of performance. Technology is characterized by complex systems. The director and choreographer need to learn and experiment. Similarly, they should study such that they understand the abilities and efficacies of each technology. The systems are able to sense and calibrate the velocity of the performer’s movement. This prompts the software to implement interactive media manipulations in appropriate ways and speeds. According to Dixon (2007, 197), “this serves to harmonize the feel and mood between the performer and their preferred audiovisual effects”.
This essay will demonstrate and describe the viewpoints and composition techniques used alongside technology, in contemporary arts. It has been divided into three sections which are: Theory, Characteristics of Physical Theatre and The Operation of Viewpoints and Composition alongside Technology. Moreover it will cite examples to provide more information on the mentioned topics. This will also serve to demonstrate the scope and benefits of technology in supporting art performances.
