Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and contributes a great deal to economies around the world. However, the damage tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often ignored. 0BWyO
Since the invention of internet, a lot of people have started to visit other countries for tourism purposes. While tourism brings a great deal of economic benefits, it also has its downsides as well. In this essay, we will explore some of the adverse effects that tourism can have on a country’s culture and environment. Tourism can bring serious adverse effects on any environment. We can consider the example of Thailand’s famous island, James Bond. In 1994, this island was shown in a hollywood movie and since then millions of tourist have visited it. Now, the island has been closed for the next twenty years because its eco system balance was badly affected. Similarly, tourism can also have a negative impact on the culture. We can consider the example of a small city called Hunza. This city was famous for its unique houses structure and design. However, in the last five years due to heavy influx of people visiting this city, now multi story hotels have been built to accommodate people. This heavy construction have almost destroyed the attractivness of that area. If countries concerned authorities can start to show a litlle care from the start, these hazardous effects can easily be mitigated. For example, government can ban further modern construction in Hunza or in case of Thailand, they should limit the per day visitors on their sensitive islands. In conclusion, tourism have the potential to damage any country’s culture and enviroment to a great extent. But we cannot put a fullstop to this industry as it is contributing around thirty to forty percent GDP’s of many countries. In reality, we can only adopt and enforce timely measures to avoid its negative effects.
