There is belief that governments should not hold any budget for art because it does not improve citizen’s lives. I cannot completely agree with this notion because one should not under-estimate the positive impact of art-related activities to people. However, I can understand the importance to evalue how public funding is spent properly. This essay will discuss why art is essential to human well-being in order to justify it’s share of public resources. To begin with, art can improve humans’ quality of life. By making a piece of art work, humans can utilize their creativity and express their emotion through the masterpiece. At the same time on the audience side, the apprehension of beauty can be developed. There are also examples when people can relax their mind through joining of dancing and music events. Overall, the emotional and spiritual well-being of people who have participation in art will be enhanced. This is expecially necessary for developed countries where the residents are too stressful with their busy lives. On the other hand, the most important criteria for governments to allocate public resources is to serve the public interest. Art, from cave-wall paintings in stone age to oil-painitings in modern time, has a long history with human of every class. Although not everybody enjoys it, It is part of the human culture and should be protected. Hence, the governments should support art as part of the national priorities. To conclude, the importance of art to human’s health should not be overlooked. As a result, I completely agree with the use of public resources to further grow this cultural area.
