In this era, academics strongly criticize the exam formats and they claim that the are not able to assess student's academic skills. However, I strongly agree with the statement, and From my point of view, exams could not show the true academic capabilities of students.
First and foremost, exams failed to examine the understanding abilities of pupils, hence in current exams, just the students who have better memorizing abilities could get higher degrees. A major part of students with lower memorizing abilities actually do not have ability to compete in these types of exams and that negatively affected the competitive environment in schools which is essential for maintaining standard academic abilities.
Moreover, exams are overloaded with bunches of books which in most times students couldn't manage to study all of it. For example, in most universities, the syllabus requires to study large books which is filled with loads information, and students supposed to learn about the whole books, however, in most occasions, they can not study and learn about the specific informations inside books, they only could remember general informations inside books.
Lastly, nowadays, exams could not reveal the real academic knowledge of students, since exams are too repetitive, and in many cases students already know what supposed to be the questions of the exams. Students tend just to study the subjects which can help them to pass in exams even with low marks. For example, when I was student I always searched for the shortcuts of the books, which some students before me marked them according to the frequency of times they have been seen in exams.
In conclusion, in this day and age, exams, in my opinion, failed to assess the real academic abilities of students, since they depends on memorizing abilities, and large amount of information included in the exams, and they are too repetitive.
