___Myanmar is a land of festivals as there is no month that does not have at least a festival. Some of them are religious festivals and some are seasonal festivals. Being a citizen of Myanmar, I've joined many famous festivals but the Thingyan is the festival that I enjoy most to take part. ___ The Thingyan Festival, also known as the Water Festival, usually falls on 13 April, the first month on the Myanmar calendar, as it does not have a movable feast. Moreover, it usually lasts for three or four days and the festival marks the end of the old year and welcomes the new year. The Thingyan Festival is an age-old festival because it has been celebrating since many years ago. During this festival, people of different ages, young and old, pour cool and clean water onto one another. Further, pouring water means wishing one another to be as cool and peaceful as water and washing away the impurities of the previous year. People participate in the Thingyan Festival by going around the town in cars, watching entertainment programmes, singing and dancing, looking the ones who are performing on the stages and all of them are in festive mood. Besides, Thingyan is not only a time for fun but also a time for doing good things. People usually go to the monasteries and pagodas to meditate, keep sabbath, release animals such as fishes, birds and do a great deal of meritorious deeds. Next, youths wash the hair of elders and cut their nails during these days. ___ In my opinion, Myanmar people enjoy the Thingyan Festival more than other festivals as Thingyan is not only a famous and popular festival but also a festival full of fun and activities that a single piece of writing cannot describe. Finally, I really feel excited when the Thingyan days arrive and it is one of the famous festivals that I've joined.
