More and more people are waiting until their thirties and forties to start having babies these days. There are various individual and broader social reasons for this, and in my opinion, there are both positive and negative effects.
The two main causes for the an age gap between parents and children relate to economics. Firstly, many individuals believe modern urban life to be more complex and difficult, especially because the cost of living has increased so dramatically in recent decades. Parents have to pay higher prices for housing, education, and health care for kids. , For example, the school fees for a six-year-old child in Mumbai may be up to lacs of indian rupees annually. Therefore, without hard working and dedication to saving, it is nearly impossible for many young couples to pay a deposit for a mortgage or even the quality education at the same time. Secondly, the large societal shifts in thinking now make encourage many young adults to be more eager for independence, freedom and privacy. The result of this is, particularly in cities, that individuals prefer to live alone.
On the one hand, this change can be positive. Babies can enjoy better living environments and improved educational conditions as older parents are more likely to have relatively stable income, and these factors play an crucial role in children’s healthy physical and emotional growth. On the other hand, child-bearing later in life can also result in pregnancy complications such as low fertility and the higher risk of genetic disorders, which could trigger the decline of a national population and in turn exacerbate the problem of ageing demographics. For instance, in Japan increasing numbers of adults have tended to have babies at older ages, which has greatly contributed to Japan’s aging problems. The ramifications of this include added pressure on the healthcare system and economic issues related to the workforce.
In conclusion, wider aging gaps are becoming the mainstream in most of countries due to increasing social pressures and novel life styles, and there are both positive and negative effects on general populations that ought to be considered.
