Tertiary education plays a pivotal role in an individual's entire life. A large number of people argue that the primary objective of higher education is to offer graduates an academic qualification that is highly appreciated by employers. However, I am of the opinion that a university has many other enormous functions. In this essay, I will dive into both sides and justify my view.
Regarding of individual's benefit, it is undeniable that professional qualification is a worthwhile reward of the third education. In today's highly competitive job market, an educational degree is an indispensable requirement for businesses to make sure that their candidates meet the minimum demand. A candidate graduating from a prestigious university is likely to gain a competitive edge compared to others without it. Another valuable reward graduates receive is soft skills improvement. After several years living on a university campus, besides gaining profound knowledge about their major, students are inclined to realize the betterment in their abilities varying from interpersonal communication, problem solving, to independent thinking through the events and extracurricular activities offered by school boards. From my perspective, these awards are priceless.
For the sake of the nation and society, university education, in particular, and education as a whole, play an integral part in raising the awareness of citizens, reducing social evils, as well as stimulating economic development. This is because education will produce a host of well-educated citizens, who are less prone to being involved in illegal activities. Furthermore, the trend of pursuing higher education gives rise to the ratio of trained specialists, thus eliminating human resources shortages in academic-required jobs. All these benefits make a huge contribution to national prospects and wealth consequently.
In conclusion, while I admit that a university education gives graduates a ticket to lucrative jobs, I assume that it is particularly valuable in terms of shaping an individual's mindset and encouraging nations to thrive.
