Is it better to act with loyalty or integrity?

Is it better to act with integrity or loyalty? Before answering this question, I would like to consider separately the concepts of integrity and loyalty. According to Oxford Languages, a word “integrity” has two definitions: 1. the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, and 2. the state of being whole and undivided. Synonyms for integrity in the first context are honesty, morality. In the second case - unity, coherence, solidarity. Integrity forms the tandem of honesty and wholeness. “Act with integrity” refers to the ability or willingness to act based on honesty or moral principles. Without confusing these basics with other principles. The definition of “loyalty” is read as a strong feeling of support or allegiance. Synonyms are reliability, faithfulness, devotion, trustworthiness. In a broader meaning, the loyalty is a devotion that derives from faith, a sense of duty, sympathy or other convictions with respect to a person, organization or principles. Notwithstanding the two apparently noble phenomena of integrity and loyalty, one is capable of conflicting with the other, turning out to be in a confrontation position. Returning to the question, I cannot commit myself to an unequivocal answer. A simple answer is possible only in the case of a careless or surface attitude to the problem. I hasten to assert, with all due conscience, that the answer to the question can only be given in the context of events in which someone is faced with a choice between integrity and loyalty. Loyalty is a quality that is necessary for successful collaboration. To build strong interpersonal or business relationships you need a solid foundation. In this sense, loyalty is clearly of primary importance. The more consistent and long-lasting loyalty is, the more likely it is that the relationship will be strong and successful. A person who puts loyalty at the core of his relationship with anyone or anything will be proven to be trustworthy. A loyal person will also be a priority over others, which will always give him or her a number of advantages. Therefore, within this definition, a person should act with a loyalty rather than with integrity. Since the question poses the choice between acting with integrity or with loyalty, loyalty appears in this case as a phenomenon that partially or absolutely contradicts integrity. That is, if someone, being absolutely loyal to another object, might find that principles of morality and honesty run counter to the actions or postulates of the object, then integrity, in my view, inevitably becomes the main acting force. This choice is determined by basic human principles of morality and ethics. In this sense, truth is above all attachments. Therefore, if we speak of acting with loyalty toward an object devoid of moral values or at least partially undermining them, then loyalty to a higher purpose, which is what integrity is, comes first by default.
