Is Feminism Compatible With Islam? #longread
This one is an awesome question: interesting and relevant. But before we talk about this conflict, assuming there is any conflict, I need to make a few disclaimers.
For starters, as someone with very little knowledge of religion, I'm not qualified to speak in the name of Islam, especially when it comes to such challenging topics. We should not speak without knowledge on any topic and, even more so, on religion.
Our Lord says in the Quran: And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart – about all those [one] will be questioned. [17: 36]
Qataadah said: "Do not say, “I saw” when you did not see, or say “I heard” when you did not hear, or “I know” when you do not know, for verily Allah will question you about all of that. " Hence it's absolutely not to okey to make guesses about Islam and then post these guesses on your Telegram channel, or Instagram page, or what have you.
Rather as Imam Malik said: The shield of the scholar is, ‘I do not know’, so if he leaves it down, his attacker will strike him.
Regarding feminism, on the other hand, I'm still not sure what that actually means. When you say, "Is feminism compatible with Islam? ", do you mean mainstream feminism, radical feminism, or whatever other type of feminism there is?
That women rights are human rights is a fact which nobody can deny. Everyone should, whether they are a Muslim or not, advocate the rights of the oppressed. But clearly, men and women are not entirely the same creature, as testified by the Quran: and the male is not like the female. [3: 36]
I don't believe we have the same roles and responsibilities in society. And whoever thinks otherwise is in manifest delusion, if you ask me. Exactly what are those roles and responsibilities is a topic maybe for another #longread post.
Having said that, I take an unequivocal stance against domestic violence. Reports about "men" beating up their wives have always tortured my soul, and one of my first posts on the channel dealth with this very crisis: https: //t. me/ozodbek_SK/19
How senseless and idiotic do you have to be to assault your own life partner? Seriously, you don't need Quran and Sunna to explain you why harming others is wrong – this is common sense! If I could publicly torture, humiliate, and execute anyone who was violent with their wife, I definitely would.
Some people asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), "Whose Islam is the best? i. e. (Who is a very good Muslim)? " He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands. " [Collected by Bukhariy]
To wrap up, we will (or may) come back to the topic of feminism in the near future, insha Allah. In the meantime, I recommend everyone, and especially to ladies, to study the life of our mother Ummu Salama – may Allah be pleased with her. I'm sure feminists will love her biography.
