When tragedies such as Covid-19 and military coup strike, our country is in dire need of fast-paced development. When social workers unite for the betterment of the country in assisting the poor and under developing communities, the future of the country is reassured. My educational and career goal is to one day to be able to help people with my skills and knowledge as a personally fulfilling profession. Thailand; a neighboring country of Myanmar, recently saw rise in technology and education systems thanks to the booming economy. Moreover, universities and education facilities in Thailand are at a respectable place in global context. Chiang Mai University is ranked the third best in Thailand, and placed 793 in South East Asia as of 2019, which makes me eager to study there as it can promise great education for me to re-contribute to my country.
In university, I had gone on a study trip with my teachers and peers to Ngapali beach. There I discovered a shocking reality of how natives are being exploited by the foreign cutthroat companies. As I was walking along the beach with my friends, we witnessed an injustice sight. A native child was selling roasted seafood on the beach. Suddenly a security guard from a certain hotel came out and cursed at the child, forcing him to leave the place. The child was not even on the hotel’s property. He was only walking on the beach. Both the child and I felt helpless as he walked away in despair but the anger in me still burned after we returned to the local village house where we were staying. Since the incident, I have been dwelling on the reasons why our native people are treated poorly by others. The lack of proper education in locals from underdeveloped areas leading to businesses bullying the native people and the absence of education outreach in rural communities are the reasons that possibly trigger these situations.
The development of the native people is a long and hard process, but is something attainable should we work together. Currently exists numbers of nonprofit organizations such as Save the Children, UNOCHA, UNFPA in Myanmar which are standing for what I believe in. After I have studied enthusiastically in Thailand, I will return to Myanmar to work on my goal of improving native people’s lives. I will join a nonprofit organization which shares the same belief as mine. I will go to rural and hard-to-reach underdeveloped parts of Myanmar and fulfill both educational and personal needs of local people. As I have graduated from Thailand I will bring in knowledge and ideas from the foreign country and share them with my people, bridging the communities of both countries closer. I will persuade my friends and family to join for my cause, and as together, we will contribute to our country as it paces towards the better days where people from different races and ethnicities receive equal education systems and human rights.
