Nam Phuong was the empress of Emperor Bao Da of the Nguyen Dynasty and the last feudal queen in Vietnamese history. She was appointed queen after her wedding anniversary, making her one of the three queens of the Nguyen Dynasty, and she held the title of queen during her lifetime. She is also the only queen in Vietnamese history to follow Catholicism. In fact, when Emperor Bao Dai abdicated to become a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, Nam Phuong naturally lost the title of Empress. Despite this, her admirers still call her "Queen Nam Phuong''
