Taking a study break after high school and before starting university is becoming increasingly popular in some nations. Taking a gap year between highschool and university studies has both merits and demerits and this essay will discuss both sides of this trend. Firstly, it can be seen that teenagers often have consideration in their fields and future occupation. Therefore, having a trip and working during study breaks gives them experience, relaxation and motivation in choosing a suitable field in university. Secondly, working after graduate highschool enables students to gain lots of working experience which can support their future career. They would find great opportunities to interact with many kinds of people and environment during working and traveling: therefore, such experience helps them to deal with challenges. For instance, colleagues taking a gap year are growing faster in their study environment and in their career than those who are not. By contrast, this trend leads to a year gap and breaks student study rhythm. Some of them would find working more important and interesting and consequently they give less attention to their study. Moreover, they could form bad habits such as smoking and drug addiction in a free working environment. For example, my aunt used to smoke due to her toxic working atmosphere and fortunately she has gotten rid of that bad habit. To conclude, taking a study break has both advantages and drawbacks. This trend can be beneficial to some students; however, it can be seen that there are those who fail to continue their studies due to this trend.
