In today’s society, globalization has a variety of positive influences on ourcountry, especially in terms of the economy and culture. This phenomenon brings bothbenefits and drawbacks to Vietnam. With regard to the economy, it is clear that Vietnamese economic growth hassignificantly increased at an unprecedented rate. Thanks to the financial support fromother nations as well as the cooperation for mutual development, our country hasthrived more than ever in recent years; from an agricultural country, Vietnam hasgradually turned into an industrialized country with the presence of many large andmodern industrial zones, factories, high-rise buildings, … However, the developmentof the economy in the era of globalization poses a threat to the increase in thedistinction between the rich and poor. As a result, social evils increase quickly whichtriggers social disorder and insecurity; this will certainly affect adversely economicgrowth. In terms of culture, globalization contributes to making our culture morediverse by blending other cultures. One major cultural area that has been affected bythis trend is Vietnamese traditional cultural values- the Vietnamese lifestyle. To bemore specific, the integration of exotic culture with concepts of modern life values hasa positive impact on changing the backward and conservative attitude and behavior ofthe Vietnamese in the past, and towards them to be a better one. In contrast, thepossibility of losing national identity is likely to happen. Because of the easyintroduction of foreign cultures and the uncareful selection, several harmful overseascultural values could be easily taken in by some parts of the Vietnamese. To sum up, globalization plays an indispensable role to nations all over theworld in developing many aspects of life, especially in economy and culture.
