Great Lake Ice Coverage in US
Great Lake Ice Coverage in US xG1dQ
The bar graph compares the ice coverage of five North American lakes between two periods: 1973 to 1992 and 1993 to 2012. In general, all of these Great Lakes in North America experienced ice coverage decreases, as observed in all values when compared to two decades previously.
However, the percentages of ice coverage reduction were different among the lakes. The data showed that Lake Superior was the most impacted lake, with approximately a 12% reduction, while Lake Ontario did not suffer as much, as the graph shows a 1% reduction. Lakes Erie, Michigan, and Huron also showed insignificant lower trends of 3%, 5%, and 6%, respectively. On the one hand, Lake Erie still had the largest ice coverage in both study periods, presented by the graph that each period had 30% and 27% coverage. Lake Ontario ice coverage, on the other hand, was still the lowest of all with only 5% coverage.
