Mental health and physical health of the elderly has become one of the most concerns of their children. Many researchers state that exercising have a great impacts on the elderly’s health, however, due to the lack of functions in some parts which is the result of being older, together with loneliness, they may be bored of being productive and stop improving their health. This essay is going to identify the reasons behind this and offer a solution. There are several reasons which lead to this problem. The main source of this problem is from their mindsets and experience. This is because most of the elderly were born and raised in the period that exercise is not vital at all; they cared about how much money they earned and how their children studied and worked. Hence, they consider it a no-need activity in a day, and they prefer to do the housework and sit in a place for a long time to read books or watch TV, which can lead to extreme backache and ligament strain. Furthermore, they tend to do less movements because they are suffering from chronic pains- which are the results of getting older and the decrease in quality of their health. Many people believe that, if they do exercises, the problems will become more serious. In fact, reports said that the old are more likely to eat what they want, since they claim that they might pass away at any time. This is a wrong thought, and it even makes their physical health decline dramatically, and may cause diabetes, obesity and heart diseases. There can be an effective solution to this problem. The children and grandchildren should visit them regularly and encourage the elderly to go outside and make new friends with the neighborhood. Then connecting other families to create outdoor activities and sports groups in local parks, such as volleyball and badminton. This is because, when they have companions and motivations from the family and neighborhood, they will try to change themselves and get out of their comfort zones to create happiness for the family members. As they see their effort bearing fruit and their illness and general well-being improving, they will be further motivated by themselves to continue that healthy schedule. In conclusion, many aged people have sedentary lifestyles due to improper nutrition and inactive hobbies. I suggest that family members should encourage them to participate in different activities in the neighborhood to socialize with people in the same ages to create motivation to be more healthy in both metal and substantial health
