Excessive traffic has made cities unpleasant places to live and work in. For this reason, private cars should be completely banned from city centres. kyk58
Car ownership has increased over the last few years. Certain people believe that the excessive traffic has made cities an unfavourable places to live and work in. This essay will present the reasons for why this is happening, and discuss how controlling private cars is far more effective than completely banning them from city centres. To start off, there are a lot of argument for why cars has made cities an unpleasant places. Namely, pollution and safety. Firstly, the noise and the gas emitted from these cars is causing pollution. It is proved that, the dark layer in the skies above the cities, mostly come from cars which runs on diesel. Secondly, roads are becoming far more dangerous for people to walk or kids to play. Parents have the right to worry about the safety of their children. It is reported that, most traffic accidents happens in the cities rather than in remote areas. For these reasons, people think that it is necessary to completely ban private cars from centres. On the other hand, some argue against the aforementioned idea. Simply put the inconvenience of public transport. People often have to take multiple because there are no convenient stop near to their offices. In addition, some countries lack in this sector. The government of Lebanon, for instance, doesn’t have trams nor trains. The buses run only on the highways, and no supervision on the taxi fare. Moreover, safety is an issue in some undeveloped countries. A lot of unfortunate events happens to people taking the public transport. For instance, last year in Lebanon, the story was revealed about the Taxi Gang who used to kidnap, rape and kill their costumers. For these reasons, private cars should not be completely banned. To sum up, enforcing the toll system and controlling the public transport from the government, as well as, implementing a fine on cars with one passenger is proven more effective than completely banning private vehicles. I believe the government should be responsible on that, and completely banning cars is not the best solution.
