Appearances can be deceiving

Appearances can be deceiving. Although it is known that we should not take literally or make assumptions about people based on the way they act and dress, it is still a common mistake that everybody makes. I had my lesson relearned after a recent incident that happened in school.
I went to class to take a seat down as usual, and saw that beside me sat a girl with a kind, yet unfamiliar face. She was the transfer student that the teacher had mentioned. We introduced ourselves to each other and I learned that her name was lily. I immediately took a liking to her as she was such a delightful person to talk to and be friends with. She was charming, witty and all of the admirable traits that you could think of.
That day, we were assigned a group art project and I without hesitant partnered up with lily. I was sure that we would make a great team since we got along so well. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We first started off the project by brainstorming ideas and pouring our creativity all over. I noticed that lily did not bring any supplies since it was her first day, so I shared mine with her. During the process of completing the project, I saw that lily was handling my pens carelessly and even broke some of them or drained all its ink. This went on repeatedly until we were finished with our work.
As soon as we were about to pass up our finished product, lily tore the paper by accident. She blamed it on me and even took credit for most of my ideas and work. I was more shocked than furious because of how nice she seemed when we were just chatting with each other. Now that I've seen her true colours, I distanced myself from her ever since that day and never let her take advantage of me ever again.
This is how appearances can be deceiving. I have relearned that I should never judge a book by it's cover. Although this was an unfortunate experience, I am still quite glad that I am reminded of how deceptive people can be and that we should always be careful when meeting new people.
