Nowadays it is always argued that high school graduates should travel or work for a period of time instead of going directly to study at university. From my perspective, I firmly believe that having time for discovering which way is the best for your future is a really good point, even though there are some disadvantages. Firstly, having time for reloading after school is great for high school graduates, because they are not under pressure and can pick the correct way for their life. In fact, they can try some jobs as a trainee to figure out if they want to do that all their life or not. Hence, they are not wasting five or even more years on unsatisfying work in the near future. For instance, I have a friend who spent 3 years studying printing and publishing, spending tons of money on it, and subsequently ended up as a successful coffee roaster in his own firm, but he wouldn’t have wasted 3 years if he had tried roasting before going to university.
Secondly, if you have already decided who you want to be in the future, better to pick the best university to get knowledge and diploma from. As a result, there will be a huge economy of time, because some professions, such as a doctor or an engineer, need a degree and diploma. For example, I can mention Mary Bykanova, a dog handler, who knew from the beginning that she wanted to be a handler with biological knowledge, so right after school she went to veterinarian academy, spent 7 years there and became a famous dog trainer in Ukraine and Europe.
In conclusion, I think that if high school graduates do not have a clear mind about their future and profession, it’s better to have some time for having different experiences and picking the right way for them before going to university.
