Every culture throughout time has recorded its history in one way or another. Why is it important to study history? In what ways can history be passed onto the next generation?

Across the world, nations had developed distinct trajectories of history owing to different interactions occurred and decisions made by their past leaders. This made learning history crucial in order to not repeat the same mistakes. However, history is considered a dull subject because what is currently emphasized in formal learning is remembering instead of reflecting past events. Hence, there is a need to educate history in a more interactive way, both formally and informally. This text will further elaborate the argument of why learning history is essential and how it should be properly educated. History teaches us to not repeat the same mistakes like what past leaders did. This is beneficial and proven practical as at times of crisis, we can identify patterns from a chain of events and ultimately hypothesize possible repercussions. We could also follow suit past leaders’ good qualities and incorporate them as habits in order to be successful. This can be illustrated after learning the history of one’s country journey to independence. Colonialism causes stratification on countries' prosperity and was caused by the different abundance of natural resources among them. To prevent the occurrence of a similar action, a country must identify what ways to efficiently manage their own resources in order to not be taken advantage of. This feat can be achieved by being studious and have high determination, like what a typical founding father would do. Nonetheless, teaching history is proven to be a challenge—especially for young learners—because history was taught at schools in a vapid manner. History needs to be taught more intriguingly, which requires a shift in historical education's emphasize from recalling an array of dates and key events to reflecting what did those course of action leads to. Teachers could use interactive audiovisuals, and initiate fruitful key takeaways discussions in order to keep students’ engagement high. Study trips to museums can also fascinate young pupils as a result of captivating exhibitions. Museums could also be a place for other age groups' informal learning; consequently, revitalization of museums are vital despite the cost to keep exhibitions updated and engaging. To conclude, history is crucial to be discerned because this paves our way to be a better person in general. To correctly teach history is to ensure that the method of learning is interactive, so that learners can be kept engrossed.
