The advancement of technology offers numerous merits to society and the Internet is one of the most enormous innovations of the world. Many people support the opinion that the social network has been an invisible bridge to connect people together while others hold the view that it has limited real-life interaction among people. From my perspective, the Internet brings greater benefits than harm. On the one hand, there are some reasons why some people assume that the development of the Internet is making users become more separated from reality and other people. Firstly, there is a common belief that overuse of the Internet likely kills face-to-face communication. In today’s modern world, we have all seen the couple sitting in a restaurant often ignoring together and engaging their smartphone instead. Likewise, the teenagers prefer making friends online to mixing with their peers in the real world. Virtual relationships are definitely not a healthy substitute for real-life interactions. Due to these drawbacks of the cyber world, it is comprehensive that many people hold prejudiced views towards the Internet. Conversely, with an online platform, the restriction of country and geography is broken, which leads people closer together without face-to-face interaction. People could meet and make friends with similar tastes from different countries. For instance, Facebook is a widespread application in the world with multiple functions that allow people to find any friend around the world and add friends within a few seconds. In addition, during the pandemic, almost all employees have been asked to work from home and the Internet has become more important than ever. Because of some applications such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Google Drive, work or study have become easier and more convenient even though people could not go to work and school. Therefore, it is obvious that the Internet is an inseparable part of our lives. In conclusion, the online network has both advantages and disadvantages to human life. I believe that it would be great if we could balance the relationships in the Internet and real life.
