Traditions are about the past and innovation is about the future, and it has been argued that we need to let go of traditions for the sake of progress. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this? What role should traditions have in our lives? There is a significant number of people claiming that for the sake of our society's evolution, it is essential that we, instead of looking back to traditions should focus on innovation and the future. I stongly feel that truth lies somewhere in the middle as extremes never proved to benefit societies. On one side, it is of paramount importance to always look ahead and put on efforts in order to improve our lives as far as work, health, values, family life and gender roles are concerned. For instance, as we all know, there has been a tremendous change when it comes to womens' and childrens' place in societies. If it were not for people who focused on how such problematic and unjustified viewpoints could be brought down we would still live, considering womens' place at home and children as helpful labor for families However, taking into account certain traditions and all the historic elements that go with them might as well benefit our societies. For example, many medical treatments that are used today, seem to be based on way that people used to treat illness in the past, such as the use of certain plants and spices. I firmly believe that, all people should be informed and educated about history and traditions in order to use this knowledge in the best way possible for our sake, whether that might be medical innovations, changes on the foundation of families or even values that should be not extinct. To sum up, both focusing on tradition or innovation without taking into consideration the past or the future would be extremely critical for us. I wholeheartedly support that, it is vital that people be open to new concepts but on the same time look back to traditions in order to maintain what could be for our benefit.
