Nowadays, we see advertisements telling us to buy things everywhere, they are in the streets, on our mobile devices, and our TVs, we simply can’t escape them. Some people think that because we see these advertisements so often, they become redundant and ineffective to us. On the other hand, others believe advertisements are very successful in convincing us to spend our money. I think advertisements are still very persuasive in making people buy things; in this essay, I will give 2 reasons that formed my opinion.
The first reason why I think advertisements are successful in persuading people to buy things is that they are everywhere. We may not have the statistics that would provide us with an answer to whether advertisements are succeeding in their jobs or not; however, companies do have that information. If advertisements are not persuading people enough, companies would not be too excited to pay millions on them year after year.
The second reason why I think advertisements are successful in persuading people to buy things is their long-term benefits. Not every advert will make people immediately go and purchase a product from a certain brand, but they will make that brand the consumers’ first choice when needing a similar product. This process is called subliminal advertising, it is when there is an advert but does not directly tell people to buy a product, it is common in movies and TV shows.
However, some people disagree and think advertisements are becoming ineffective because they are so common. They believe that people are forming an immunity against adverts because they are seeing them so often.
All in all, I think advertisements are still incredibly influential for some logical reasons. However, others disagree and believe people do not get persuaded to buy things from adverts anymore because they are becoming too common.
