William Shakespeare, wrote this line way back within the 16th century, about 400 years ago. But even today, it remains as true. Everybody desires prosperity. Who doesn't want to be rich? Who doesn't want to appear wealth, move about in an air conditioned cars and revel in the luxurious of life? But wishes aren't horses. Had they been horses, beggars would have been first to ride.
Man, by nature, may be a selfish and ease-learning creature. “Adversity contributes a challenge; an error, a careless action and laziness can mean disaster or death. One needs to rise to the occasion, air the guard, put up the simplest of the fight and this fight makes him stronger, bolder and wiser. Adversity brings out all the qualities in man. It makes him humble, patient and self-sustaining. Humility is that the mother of other virtues. Thus adversity proves to be a far better school than prosperity. The history of the planet is that the story of the survival of the fittest, a story of these who fought against adverse circumstances and achieved great victories.
Some people foolishly believe that wealth can solve all problems. One is also able to buy the simplest of pens with one’s wealth, but can that improve a man’s hand-writing? A wealthy, but ugly woman, may purchase the most effective of cosmetics together with her money but can she become really beautiful? never, the important qualities of head, hand and heart, may be attained only through struggle in adversity. it's adversity alone that teaches you to play the sport of life as a true player. Can a fighter enjoy a victory if enemy is weak and broken? Prosperity makes a person lazy and lethargic and makes him an honest for-nothing fellow. He falls a prey to all or any evil habits and fails to urge real joy in life.
Human history is filled with samples of several great men who were born and referred to within the school of adversity only. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in a very poor family. But poverty brought out his real greatness and he rose to be the Prime Minister of this great country. At the end of the Second World War Germany suffered colossal loss and was almost ruined, and so was Japan. But the Germans and the Japanese did not lose hope. They made remarkable recovery and are now on their feet again. Adversity brings a person nearer to God. it's only in pain, sufferings and misfortune that one remembers God. Prosperity too dazzling to let a person see God.
Every dark cloud encompasses a bright side. The darkest the night, the nearer the dawn. Adversity therefore, has its own sweetness.
